Nishii recently visited the Shizunami Surf Stadium. At that time, the stored water was drained and we were given an explanation of how the waves are created.

Water is stored in the back wall with a pump and released from the square areas underneath the pool. Apparently the strength and speed of the waves are controlled by a computer to design and produce them.

There are waves for beginners that are just soupy, waves that are easy to rip, waves that turn into barrels, and waves with sections breaking from the front for air.

It seems that you can freely program the waves, etc. Regular and goofy!

Apparently they use filtered well water!

Below are some photos and information from the Shizunami Surf Stadium WED website.

AMERICAN WAVE MACHINES

Amazing Technology: "World's Cutting-Edge Technology x Unique Japanese Ideas"

Filtration method There are three types of tanks available so far: sand-based, diatomaceous earth, and cartridge-based. However, this facility has adopted the latest sand-based tank, which is the most resistant to fluctuations in water quality among large-scale facilities. The modern blue-colored, huge round tank promises clean water that is safe and secure for your child's health.

Backwash prevention Every wave is of the highest quality! We have brought together the best of Japanese technology to thoroughly prevent backwash. The installation of two drainage gutters at the shoreline has created perfect waves that are not affected by turbulent currents. You'll definitely want to try these waves.
