What is this LOST MAYHEM board???

This is a collaborative design board by Matt Biolos and Donald Brink.

The board shaping length for Mick Fanning's ride in the Maldives at STAB's Electric Acid Surfboard Test (EAST) 2022 was limited to 5'3". This was a bold challenge, as Mick requested that the short weakness be minimized.

To pack punchy features into a board design that's both controllable and short in length, we've limited the design to just what's essential and kept it minimal.

We created a compact Craft board that was suited to Mick Fanning's performance volume, could handle a variety of waves, could maintain rails even with proper carves, fit tight and unique waves, and could handle flat wave faces, energetic pockets, and power sessions with ease.

What does this board mean to you? It's an addition to your quiver. Not a replacement for your trusted performance board, but a shorter, smaller board with reasonable dimensions to improve your surfing in addition to it.

How comfortable do you need to be to enjoy the performance you envision? A three-time World Champion has put this design to the test. While most surfers never get the power they need on the rail, with the right approach and craft, many can find themselves in the perfect spot on a regular wave.

This board is designed for standing stance surfing. It incorporates leverage from a toe-side approach, balanced with heel-side drive. This collaboration was a platform for design differentiation, exploring what we know, what we believe in, and delicately applying what's possible. The collaboration felt like mixing music; a medley of contributions from friends with all sorts of analog and digital nuances. We hope you enjoy this mix. Mixed Tape, er, #MicksTape. Mick's #MicksTape is 5'3" and 28.5cl. For world-class masters, there's a 6-7" gap in length. The larger overall size creates favorable conditions for handling average conditions and supporting volume and moderate width to withstand crowded lineups. Yet it's still easily maneuverable with short rail lines. A comfortable case.

MAYHEM X BRINK MICKS TAPE SYM (WITH COLOR)

“MicksTape-SYM”: A fully symmetrical version of Stab's 2022 #ElectricAcidSurfboardTest winning board, chosen by Mick Fanning.

"MicksTape-SYM" is for those who are apprehensive about asymmetrical boards but are interested in the overall performance of the original #MicksTape.

A big part of the reason for the asymmetrical design of the original was knowing that "Test" was a typical powerful, peak-season Maldivian reef. When STAB tasked us with designing a 5'3" board, we gambled that the waves there would benefit from a slightly reduced heel edge surface area. And we were right... but in the power waves of everyday surfing, with no reef, a standard swallowtail would spin out. The solution was simple: similar to a typical swallowtail, but with an inverted inside curve, the smooth flow of the "Gull" tail is reminiscent of the original #MicksTape.

Designed to be effective at much shorter lengths than your standard shortboard or even the shortest performance fishboard in your quiver, choose a length that aligns with the width and volume type you're comfortable with, then push yourself to fit new parts of the wave, just like Mick shows us.

Essentially, it's the same board in every respect except for a few inches behind the tail outline.
#MicksTapes-SYM is the same high performance in a small package as the Asymmetrical version, but with a symmetrical tail that's easy for everyone to understand.
