        Model explanation

Mayhem brings back a retro 1980s surfboard design for the modern era, creating a friendly freesurf model that combines volume with agility and maneuverability. The distinctive "beak nose" design gives the board thickness all the way to the nose, giving it a pointed nose design, but it also hides the fast and easy paddling and takeoff capabilities of a rounded nose board. This board's "semi-flat deck design" provides excellent paddling and takeoff performance, while the sharply tapered "staped retro rails" respond directly to the rider's intentions, making it easy to rail into the water and turn. First released in California, it quickly became a popular LOST surfboard model and is now part of the LOST/MAYHEM classic series. Its hybrid design, with its pointed nose and wide form, makes it easy to ride in any wave.

LOST's Rad Ripper model was the world's best-selling surfboard of 2019

It's no easy feat for LOST's Matt Biolos and co. to keep up with all the different models, but this year, amid the popularity of the Driver 2.0 and California Fish, the Rad Ripper was the most coveted board. If surfing is all about having fun, this is the board for you. The Rad Ripper is fast, easy, and retro with Biolos' personal touches for a modern update. Most notably, it features increased tail rocker with a fantastic double-barrel concave for more back-foot control. "As a kid surfing in the '80s, I was always fascinated by the ease of use of performance shortboards from that era," Biolos says. The Rad Ripper "slackens the entry rocker a little, and replaces the wide, round tail that controlled speed with a squash tail for a more slippery, quicker, and faster paddle entry."

Lost Surfboards salesman Nate Yeomans named the Rad Ripper the most sought-after board in their category. "Demand for surfboards has been strong all year. The Rad Ripper is a great board," Yeomans said. "There were a lot of models, and we introduced one that we thought was really good, and the Rad Ripper was that model. I don't know what Matt Biolos would say about it, but it's a great board." The Rad Ripper isn't a board you'd ride at Desert Point (a hollow reef break in Indonesia). But how often do you ride Desert Point? It's a great board for everyday sessions or when you need a little extra inspiration to get a little wet. It's our best-selling board of 2019, according to our statistics.
