Since its inception, the SUB DRIVER has been a successful surfboard for small waves. Starting with Kolohe Andino's five WQS wins in 2011, Mick Fanning and others discovered a dirty SUB DRIVER that Kolohe had discarded in his backyard after wreaking havoc on an Oakley Lower Pro. They then rode it in the Lowers Wild West contest, winning heats like a completely different rider and astonishing the world. Mick said that riding the SUB DRIVER "completely changed my perception of what a competition board should be."

The SUB DRIVER has been a mainstay of our team riders' tactics in our competitions. Every year, our competitors travelling the world ask for the SUB DRIVER as a special board that can handle the diverse and unpredictable beach waves of WQS. And as we've continued to refine it, it's also become a board that anyone with moderate skill can ride.

The SUB DRIVER 2.0 is a rider-friendly, performance shortboard that anyone can use, and is the latest in our ever-evolving line.

Developed on the soft peeling points of San Clemente, it enjoys waves from small to large and works well in mushy wave points and weak, unsettled beach breaks.

Developed for competitors riding small waves, but also perfectly suited to surfers who surf every day or every weekend, the SUB DRIVER 2.0 was developed to benefit pro surfers, but is a board design that is truly suited to most Bros (bros = casual surfers) too.

Reflecting the demand for small wave boards from riders like Kolohe Andino, Griffin Colapinto, Carissa Moore, Caroline Marks, and our upcoming junior pro team riders, with constant evolution and impressive updates, we are now proud to unveil the SUB DRIVER 2.0.

The notable updates and tuning details are as follows:

Wider, more spacious nose

To encourage us to drive forward, we've added a radical arch to the board, giving you more stability for a cool landing. This wide nose creates a straight forward outrun, making it easier to paddle into the wave and providing faster forward momentum in small waves when paddling.

Refine the hips of the wide tail

This is primarily due to the balanced position being a wider forward outline, which allows for more speed control. It helps to initiate bottom turns and cutbacks more easily. The wide tail creates a stable platform, especially in small waves. The hips create a pivot point in the optimal rail line, allowing for powerful turns in weak waves. This is a great functional design that allows for performance in weak waves.

Increased deck vee and thinner rails increase thickness along the center (stringer line)

The loose rail volume (without reducing the overall CL buoyancy volume) encourages radical turns and makes the board more nimble and fun to surf, even in flat waves, with plenty of lift and movement. The thicker centerline aids paddling and allows for lots of drive.

Deep concave in the rear third of the board

The rail side rocker starts with a moderately shallow single concave up front, then moves through the front fin and into a deeper, more rounded rail line.

The slight vee behind the rear fin adds acceleration, and there's plenty of double concave following the tail, and this single-double concave adds lift, helping with water ejection and the speed the board releases.

The DRIVER's rounded, hyper-extended rail rocker creates a central point underfoot and balances the slack, flat centerline tail rocker. It's perfect for surfing tight and vertical in the pocket, or driving a fast line. The wide nose and tail block blend with the slack tail rocker.

The SUB DRIVER 2.0 will be ridden in smaller waves than the DRIVER model or similar performance shortboards, so we recommend riding it 1-2 inches shorter.

The SUB DRIVER 2.0 BRO is made with a dimension (size) that we call BRO. Even though it is the same length, it has a CL buoyancy volume, making it ideal for those who want more buoyancy and making it easier to ride the waves.

There are two tail shapes that allow for tight turns.
SQUASH Squash tail is for those who value sharp movement,
THUMB Thumb Tail (wide round) is recommended for those who prioritize drive.
