New Luvsurf TV: Driver, Julian Wilson

Luvsurf TV:LOST MAYHEM "DRIVER" Julian Wilson Rider: Julian Wisson Board used: LOST MAYHEM "DRIVER" FILM & EDIT: Tabrigade Films This is a collection of Julian Wilson's riding footage filmed in Australia in 2012. Julian mainly drives the "F1-STUB" model. When the waves are weak, I use this driver model with a squash tail, which has more volume. Recently, I've been working on my muscle strength through athletic training with the Nike team, so my body is getting bigger. It seems that boards of the same size are increasingly being used in conditions where a board with a slightly higher CL value (buoyancy) is required. To accommodate Julian's power and drive surfing The "DRIVER" is a high performance board designed by Mayhem with excellent driving performance. This new model is recommended for those who want a little more buoyancy than the F1-STUB, even though it is the same length. Love Surf will soon be receiving more stockboards with this SQUASH tail. [DRIVER] (SQUASH TAIL) POLYESTER / MESH Carbon Tail Patch 5'9" x 18 1/4" x 2 1/16" (175 x 46.3 x 5.25 cm) 50-60kg 23.8cl 5'10" x 18 3/8" x 2 1/8" (178 x 46.7 x 5.4 cm) 55-65kg 25.0cl 5'11" x 18 1/2" x 2 3/16" (180 x 47.0 x 5.55 cm) 60-70kg 26.1cl 6'0" x 18 5/8" x 2 1/4" (183 x 47.3 x 5.7 cm) 65-75kg 27.5cl All is clear. Maybe you don't need wax? Introduction of the protoboard

Cork is attached to the deck surface, A prototype board has been completed, which requires some very special lamination techniques and equipment. The bottom surface is epoxy laminate. The rails are wrapped in carbon. The mark is a prototype, It's a rough logo mark like this. The cork is so light that it feels like the lightest board I've ever owned. Apparently cork becomes less slippery when it gets wet, I'm going to test a cork board that may not need wax.

There's plenty of time to be a shaper.

This is the final episode of the Mayhem interview. Please take a look. Recently, many professional surfers have been riding your boards with success. Have you seen an increase in orders and sales? Yes, we've received a lot of orders and things are going well. Do you think technology and new materials will have a bigger impact on shaping and surfing in the future? I think there's a huge shift in attitude and perspective on the materials technology that's impacting us right now. I think there are better materials out there, but it's a cost issue. Who wants to take the risk of testing a board that's short-lived? What influences and inspirations do you have outside of surfing that influence your shapes? Snowboarding, actually snowboarding, the side outline, the flex, the edges, the lack of fins, all of that stuff enters my head. I grew up on a boat for a while, which is interesting, and my dad lived on a boat. I also worked part-time on a boat for a few years, and that experience has definitely influenced who I am today. In fact, surfing requires very unique forces that you can't understand unless you experience them: the force of the water to steer against the moving body of water, and the relationship of your weight as you glide across the surface. On a different note, I would say that my biggest influence is punk rock. The do-it-yourself ethos and aesthetic of early to mid-80s punk has shaped my life. Finally, I want to say that I still have plenty of time and focus to be a Shaper. Why not order a custom surfboard from MAYEHM? Now with 3 bonuses! Click here for details!

I recommend custom orders (according to MAYHEM)

Interview with the sequel, Mayhem! Is there a bit of a "brotherhood of shapers" when it comes to sharing ideas, or is it more secretive? When you went to Australia, how was the reception from the shapers there? I think people who are confident in their own world feel very comfortable talking openly with people they respect and know as passionate and authentic designers. Like-minded people tend to be very open with each other. Whenever Chilli and I meet, we share our latest tricks. Our collaboration is mutually beneficial, so it feels more open than usual. I chatted a lot with DH at the Taj victory party. With so many well-known local shapers to choose from, none of the Gold Coast shapers seemed annoyed that so many Australians were riding your boards (and winning) in Burley and Snapper contests, right? No surfers from the Gold Coast have ever used my boards in contests. Taj has mainly ridden Firewire for the last few years, although he does occasionally ride my boards because of my association with Firewire. It's the same with Brett Simpson (who grew up in my hometown) who had his best performance last year on my board, then moved to JS in the offseason. They just do what feels best for them in the moment. That's true for all of us. Can there be a board that suits every wave in every place? Or can there be a local shaper who makes something that is best suited to the local wave? Doesn't making boards shorter and more voluminous negate the need for boards that are tailored to the local wave? I suppose the idea works in extreme waves, and in somewhat unique places like Snapper, Trestles, Hawaii, etc. it makes sense for surfers to try out local colors of boards, but in the end no one has ever won a lower water surfing contest with my board, and the fact is that at Snapper and Pipe, non-local boards have won more times than local boards. Recently, Base went under and D'Arcy closed its factory. Some people are pessimistic about the flood of cheap boards from China. Do you think the future is bleak for American shapers? I believe the Great China Curse has significantly narrowed the full spectrum of boards available. If the leaders of surfboard design are flexible, businesses moving in the opposite direction can adapt and survive, or simply adapt as the market changes. We at LOST are confident we can continue to build top-notch boards in the USA. While there are certainly good reasons for the high-quality composite boards made overseas, traditionally shaped boards are still made to the best of our ability in local factories. Maintaining integrity is what makes a custom order. It keeps everything special. I recommend custom ordering. Matt Biolos (Mayhem) said: Why not have MEYHEM create a special, custom order just for you? Plus, it comes with a bonus! Click here for details!

Taj, Mick and Julian all got new boards, what about you?

(Excerpted and translated from an interview in STAB Magazine) If you'd been stuck in a hole for a few weeks during the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast, you'd never have truly felt that West OZ's victory was...LOST MAYHEM board. When a famous surfer changes his equipment, it's big news. When Taj Burrow's exclusive contract with FireWire came to an end, it didn't go unnoticed by the surf industry when he was riding a Mayhem board in less than ideal snapper waves. Last year, Mick Farming, while a Harley professional, also caused a stir in the surfing industry when he refrained from using his regular DHD board and instead used a Southern California MAYHEM board. But for pro surfers, experimenting and trying new board designs or new shapers is just a way to think outside the box, or to break some of their own habits, or maybe just find a way to improve their approach to the competition. For us, if we want to be like the pro surfers, we want to know what kind of board they're riding because we want to surf properly like them. If you're interested in learning more about what makes professional surfers tick, then Matt "Mayhem" Biolos' blog is a must-read. It details the boards he builds for these successful surfers. Matt flew to Australia, spent time in the Gold Coast and Sydney, and is now finally back in Southern California. He had some time to talk, so we finally got in touch with the man of the moment. 【Please tell us about the places you visited over there.】 I was only there for two weeks. My main purpose for this visit to Australia was to support our team rider Kolohe Andino on his first World Tour, but he was eliminated before I arrived. The second reason for my visit was to shape as many boards as possible for the Australian market (not just pros) who wanted custom LOST boards. I shaped exactly 100 boards, 14 of which were for pros. Chili is in charge of LOST surfboards in Australia, and I worked at his factory. It's great to be able to work with someone like him. We can exchange opinions (knowledge) and get each other excited. What was it like watching Taj win the Quiksilver Pro at Snapper on a board you built? Yes, it was amazing, but it was very stressful! The three heats on the final day were nail-biting after Taj beat everyone in rounds 2, 3, and 4. It was the first time I'd been on the beach watching one of my surfers win a WT contest on a board I'd built since Shane Beschen at the Coke Classic in '98, and Shane Beschen was there with me watching Taj win. How long have you been working with Taj? There was an article a few years ago about him riding a Mayhem board in San Clemente. Is that true? I'd made boards for him off and on in the past—going back to when he was riding Webber, and I worked with Webber a lot during that time. Our collaboration began anew in September before the 2010 Lowers contest. Taj showed up early for the contest, hung out with Kolohe, tried out some of Kolohe's boards, and ordered some. We were working on a few batches, and because of our relationship with Firewire, we decided to work on Firewire versions using my designs. However, I wasn't as good as Nev at translating his requests into files, and the boards I made weren't as good as Nev's. But then last summer, around the US Open, something interesting happened. They started to get interested and started calling me more. In September, I made a few more boards for Lowers, and then just before the Australian Open, Taj called me and said he was a tough rider and wanted me to make him three or four new, awesome boards. He sent me the details and said, "If I get it right, I'll ride them on Snapper." When I check out your blog, it seems like you often feature famous surfers riding your boards, especially when they're in good form. It's a great way to constantly evaluate your work. I love working with Julian. He's a no-nonsense guy, very honest and passionate. He's not just on the "best surfers" list, he's also very professional with his boards. Mick rode my board at Trestles and just had a bit of fun. He'd been riding Darren Andree's boards (DHD) exclusively for a long time, but last year wasn't up to par, so it was a good time to stop, look around, see what the kids were riding, and freshen up his moves. When he saw Kolohe's board, he was probably surprised it had enough volume! He took to it with ease and was in good spirits again. He and Darren are back in business, chatting away. "I'm so happy that Kolohe is surprising everyone by becoming the best surfer in the world. People are curious to know what he's riding and how it works. Darren had been trying to keep Mick's boards low volume for a while, but Kolohe sparked the idea." Taj, Mick and Julian have also just upgraded their boards. Now, is there anyone else out there who would like to try out my board? I want you to experience real results and I want to help you move in the right direction. MAYHEM says... The LOST Surfboard Order Fair will start tomorrow, the 20th, for a limited time, with three special benefits. We recommend ordering custom orders from Lost MAYHEM!
