There's plenty of time to be a shaper.

This is the final episode of the Mayhem interview. Please take a look. Recently, many professional surfers have been riding your boards with success. Have you seen an increase in orders and sales? Yes, we've received a lot of orders and things are going well. Do you think technology and new materials will have a bigger impact on shaping and surfing in the future? I think there's a huge shift in attitude and perspective on the materials technology that's impacting us right now. I think there are better materials out there, but it's a cost issue. Who wants to take the risk of testing a board that's short-lived? What influences and inspirations do you have outside of surfing that influence your shapes? Snowboarding, actually snowboarding, the side outline, the flex, the edges, the lack of fins, all of that stuff enters my head. I grew up on a boat for a while, which is interesting, and my dad lived on a boat. I also worked part-time on a boat for a few years, and that experience has definitely influenced who I am today. In fact, surfing requires very unique forces that you can't understand unless you experience them: the force of the water to steer against the moving body of water, and the relationship of your weight as you glide across the surface. On a different note, I would say that my biggest influence is punk rock. The do-it-yourself ethos and aesthetic of early to mid-80s punk has shaped my life. Finally, I want to say that I still have plenty of time and focus to be a Shaper. Why not order a custom surfboard from MAYEHM? Now with 3 bonuses! Click here for details!
