The GLYDRA is a model born from an idea of our partner surf shop in New Jersey, where the waves are usually small.
This model is between the ``SMOOTH OPERATOR'' and ``HYDRA'', and is a mid-length FISH board that is very fast to paddle and take off.
If you've watched professional player Arashi Murata's YouTube channel, you've probably noticed the impressive performance.
The GLYDRA, created by MAYHEM, is not just a surfboard with a fast takeoff that has been shortened to a mid-length version of another brand's longboard.
It paddles and trims like a long, slender glider, and turns easily, making it easy to make full rail cutbacks even in weak waves.
The GLYDRA was designed for small, low-power conditions, but the fact that Mayhem himself enjoyed riding it in the Mentawai region of Indonesia is proof of the model's great potential.
The GLYDRA has a 5-fin plug, and can be configured in a variety of ways, including tri, quad, and 2+1, depending on the rider's preferences and wave conditions, so you can enjoy it in a variety of patterns.

世界のサーフボードヒストリーに刻まれている、レペゼンLOST『ROUND NOSE FISH』をベースに日本人サーファー&日本の波に合わせPLACEBOチューンした日本限定モデル『ROUND NOSE ROUND』試乗してきたので、インプレッションをアップさせていただきますので最後までご覧になってくださいね！
試乗した日のコンディションは、腹胸サイズで風が弱く比較的クリーンなコンディション。
ミドルが深くて地形やウネリの向きが悪く、難しい波が多かったです。
そんな中、以前からとても気になっていたモデルの１つ、PLACEBO『ROUND NOSE ROUND』に乗ってきたのですが、やはりとてもバランスの良いモデルでしたよ！
今回試乗したPLACEBO『ROUND NOSE ROUND』は、5’8”×20.50”×2.63” 34.25cl。
僕は168cmで65kgなので通常で考えるとかなりオーバーフローですが、モデルの適正体重で言うとジャストに近いサイジングです。
まずパドルなのですが、
さすがLOST『ROUND NOSE FISH』がベースモデルだけあって、とてもバランスよくてパドルがしやすく早かったですし、ウェイブマグネットマシーンの別名を持つだけあって難しいコンディションの中、波の引っかかりも良く、スムースで早いテイクオフが想像通りで余裕を持った出来ましたよ。
パドル＆テイクオフ性能に関しては想像通りだったのですが、驚いたのは『ROUND NOSE ROUND』の運動性能の高さです！
パッとした見た目では、大きくラウンドしたノーズに最大幅が広いので、とても軽快にサーフボードが動くなんて想像し難いですよね！？
さすが『MAYHEM』34.25clあっても驚くほど動きます！
数値上ではとても高浮力でパドルやテイクオフはとても早いのですが、特筆すべきはレールエンドの薄さとラウンドテールによって数値からは考えられないほ程にレールが入れやすく、軽快に思い通りのボードコントロールが出来て驚かされ１発でお気に入りモデルとなりました！
フィンセッティングはクアッドと迷ったのですが、安定の『MR2+1』を装着しましたが、使い慣れているのもあるかと思いますが、間違いなくフィットしていましたよ！
『ROUND NOSE ROUND』は、日本のアベレージサーファーの為に、『西井プロ』と『MAYHEM』が水面下で共同開発した日本限定モデル！
2021年にスタートした『ROUND NOSE ROUND』のプロジェクトは、トライ＆エラーを繰り返し2024年に究極のウェイブマグネットマシーンとしてリリースしましたが、パフォーマンス性能がとても高いのでパワーのあってサイズのある波でも調子良さそうです！
