But Sheldon Paishon didn't have that kind of financial support growing up. He didn't even have a home. The 30-year-old from Oahu's West Side was born into poverty and spent most of his adolescence homeless. He found refuge and hope in the ocean, where he dreamed of becoming a professional surfer.
Through the Doggy Door offers an unvarnished glimpse into Sheldon's upbringing and hears from his local community, including Mason Ho, who saw his potential and did everything they could to guide him towards a better future. But as Sheldon shows, the road to professional surfing is not an easy one.
This movie will make you laugh, cry, wince and cheer you up. There's no sugar coating.
