Ward and Andy with wasabi!

The surfboard he was using was none other than the Japan-exclusive Wasabi model. Ward competed in the WCT on this 6'1" Wasabi model, 19 inches wider and with a swallow tail. Recently, the Wasabi has been a big hit with Mayhem riders, and Andy was also using a Wasabi model in his first heat! Andy's Wasabi was 6'1" long with a Diamond tail. When I later asked Mayhem why he chose the Diamond tail, he told me that Andy had requested a board that was 6'1" long but had the movement of a 6'0" board, which was a difficult request. That's when Mayhem came up with the idea of ​​combining the Diamond tail with the Wasabi. The Diamond tail shortens the rails, making the board feel shorter than its actual length.
