Ward was on the podium after the final, and Kelly was on the podium at Teahupo'o and Pipe.
He also commented that what made him happiest was when someone said, "Ward is the best in the world" in heavy waves.
Apparently he used a 6'6" semi-gun.

Ward flew the board from Hawaii to California.
I returned to San Clemente for three hours just to pick up my board.
I quickly returned home and the next day I got 19.90 points!!
