Sometimes, when the beach break in front of my house is really, really small and slow, I ride my longboard. On one such day last summer, I tried out a Mini Simmons, a retro board with twin keel fins, made by a shaper who shapes boards like that.

The Mini Simmons has a longboard-like nose, perfect parallel rails, a huge square tail, and a weird round vee concave that gives it a curve on the bottom.

It took a lot of waves and glided through knee-high waves like my 9'6".

Even though it was the smallest, slowest wave, which you have to surf very carefully, I was able to turn easily, and very slowly.

A few months later, when I picked up the recycled foam "Green Foam" in the shaping room,

The New York Times came to interview us for an article about "Green Foam."

I worked on carving the blanks by hand while they filmed and photographed.

Without a template, without any measuring tape,

Like a school project I finished the 6'0" blanks.

I shaped it while thinking about a strange board I had ridden a few months earlier.

The blanks were thin, so the deck felt flat.

So I made it very wide and didn't want to add any concave.

I wanted a crazy amount of glide, but also aggressive turns, so I gave it a straight rocker and a little lift up the back end.

We also added a diamond tail, which is resistant to rough waves.

Instead of twin keel fins, we went with quads for positivity and reliability.

This board you're looking at is that. It's approximately 6'0" x 22" x 2.5.

It was a very small wave that I usually only ride on a longboard, and out of all the boards I've ridden up until now,

It's the easiest board to use. It can catch any wave and do roundhouse turns in 10 inch waves.

If you like this kind of board and want it as a precious item,

If you want to surf even the smallest waves, this is the board for you.

Seriously, I won't let you down. "Matt Biolos"
