We rode the California Twin in choppy onshore conditions!
Hello, I'm Kohei, a staff member. Here are my impressions after riding the California Twin MADE IN JAPAN QUALITY in southern Chiba the other day. I've ridden the California Twin before at its best size, and this time I'll be surfing the 5'8" with a slight overflow, so I'd like to report on the difference in riding feel between the two sizes. (Height: 168 cm , weight: 64 kg) On the day, the set was from Momo to Koshitama, and the wind was blowing from the east at around 4m, making the conditions choppy and bad. Most of the waves were flattened by the wind, making for slow, sluggish conditions, but there were occasional sharp waves that you could ride in a good position for short rides. This time, I met up with M, a heavy Love Surf user, and went into the ocean. He asked me if I wanted to try out the LOST 5'8" California Twin MADE IN JAPAN QUALITY board he had recently purchased, as it was in great condition, so I gave it a test ride! My first impression when I started paddling was that it felt unstable and the paddle didn't link well with the board and the waves, making it difficult. I didn't notice it when it was just the right size, but I think that in today's choppy conditions, the wider width than the nose, which is an advantage as it has overflow, caused it to pick up the water surface in an odd way, making it difficult to stabilize. As for the take-off performance, which is what everyone is most interested in, I was impressed that it was very fast, even though I'm not used to it yet. One of its features is that the widest point is further forward, which allows you to position the paddle at the front of the surfboard, and the relatively modest nose rocker is also a plus. https://vimeo.com/527744362 The thing that surprised me most about the California Twin was its speed. Without doing anything after takeoff, the plane reaches top speed in an instant, and at first I felt like my body was being left behind! I just got back to LA. I went to BSR in Waco, Texas. This time, LOST surfboards will be holding a test ride event. MAYHEM will adjust the board design on the spot. Because I was invited to an event hosted by LOST. Nishii is now riding the wave of this "American Wave Machine" system. This is my second time here, having visited a few years ago. The latest version of the same "American WAVE machine" will soon open in Shizuoka. So we hope to be able to hold a similar event in Japan. Since we were meeting, this was a good time to visit and inspect the facility. If Japan allows foreigners to enter the country, MAYHEM is fully prepared to come to Japan, We are currently planning MAYHEM, so please look forward to it! This time, people working at LOST were invited to take turns over the course of about a week. We took turns surfing and I was amazed at how good they were at it. The reason why LOST surfboards are so great and in such good condition is because everyone on the team loves surfing and is good at it. I will report later on what kind of boards they were riding.
