First up, the third place model is the "RNF-RETRO" It has been almost two years since it was first released in 2018, but its popularity remains undiminished, and it is currently ranked third in the shape lineup for this MAYHEM Japan tour. This is one of my favorite models and it's a must-have that I always keep in my car when I go to the beach. Hello, I'm Kohei, a staff member. The other day, I wanted to ride the SHONAN WARRIOR , so I went surfing at Kugenuma Beach in Shonan for the first time in over five years.I'd like to share with you my impressions of the waves and the SHONAN WARRIOR . For reference, I'm 168cm, 64kg, and I'm using a 5'4" SHONAN WARRIOR in pre-made sizes with FCSⅡMR PC/TWIN/TRI fins. The setup is two ` `Mark Richards'' fins on the front and two ``FCS II PERFORMER PC TEAL/QUAD REAR fins, size S'' fins on the back. I went on a weekday, and maybe it was because the weather was nice... (or is that normal?) As you can see from the image above, it was so crowded that I was quite discouraged before even getting into the water, as I usually surf in Chiba. (Sorry for the grainy image.) The waves were about thigh-high. They were relatively weak offshore, with a clean surface and a fair number of waves, but there were a lot of longboards near the outside and the front was packed with shortboards, miniboards and fish, so the number of people and the number of waves were completely out of sync. However, Kugenuma Beach, which I hadn't been to in a while, was a typical shallow beach break and the conditions were perfect for trying out the SHONAN WARRIOR . To sum up, just as I imagined, the SHONAN WARRIOR was the perfect model for a typical shallow beach break! I normally like riding short surfboards, so I wasn't worried about the length of the 5'4" (in fact I thought it was too long), but I did imagine that because it's quite wide, it might be sluggish in small waves where it's hard to gain speed, but that was a completely unnecessary worry. The perfect balance of width, rocker, and double concave babel-bottom shape provides speed and stability when paddling, allowing for very fast paddle speeds and yet stability when taking off, making it a model that can be enjoyed by beginners and advanced paddlers alike. Normally, stability and high maneuverability are contradictory, but the bottom design, the thin rails compared to the width, and most importantly the single wing located just before where the back foot is placed make the tail width quite narrow, so the board moves much more lightly than you would imagine from its appearance. This time, within an hour, the wave number had decreased and it was no longer possible to break the bait, but I felt the potential of the SHONAN WARRIOR and once again thought that it is a very well-made model! https://vimeo.com/328677729 I was impressed that MAYHEM developed this model with the intention of using it on crowded weekends in Shonan.
