The Puddle Jumper was the most popular board in the USA in 2014-15. We requested Mayhem to tune the original design of this board for riding in Japan, and they made improvements to the board design to suit Japanese waves and riders, resulting in a Japan specification that exceeds the performance of the original model.
The tail shape uses the "ROCKET" tail, first designed by Mayhem, which was a global hit.
The "ROCKET" tail is an ambitious tail design that combines the best performance of three different tail shapes: the "Squash" for speed, the "Round" for light movement, and the "Diamond" that makes the board shorter than its actual length for easier riding.
With a very subtle rocker vent from nose to tail, this board is stable and glides well. It handles small waves with ease and performs better in larger, more powerful waves than the original Puddle Jumper.
The rounded outline, straight center rail line, and solid nose rocker make it easy to control even in large waves, and it's perfect for both reef breaks where you need to draw long arches, and beach breaks where you need to maneuver quickly. The thin rails mean you can ride powerful waves at open-face points or reef breaks without any instability.
The bottom features a single-double vee concave, designed with Japanese surfers in mind for speed in both small and large waves. The bottom concave connects to the vee at the tail, and the wide outline is designed to easily catch any wave, anytime, anywhere, and provides good balance and stability while riding. This vee bottom with concave lifts the board, allowing the board's wide design to move effortlessly and even allow for radical top-to-bottom movements.
The Japan-exclusive "PUDDLE JUMPER-JP" model, equipped with a ROCKET tail, is easy to ride regardless of skill level and has no quirks.
The new model "PUDDLE JUMPER-JP" can be ridden by beginners to intermediate level riders who have mastered takeoff and paddling.
