Impressions from Nishii himself on the RNF-REDUX / Surf Photo by Masanori Furuta

The round nose of the RNF-REDUX has a large area, so compared to the pointed nose of a competition type, you can get on the nose and position the paddle forward, which inevitably puts weight on the front paddle. This allows you to naturally slide down into the wave, which is necessary when taking off, so you can start running quickly even though the takeoff is short.

The RNF-REDUX's excellent take-off performance means that it will be fast even in torrential waves, thick waves, or waves with no power, and even those who have never ridden it can imagine from its outline design that it will be fast, but in fact, it also has good take-off performance in deep, rising waves.

It can be easily taken off even in waves that suddenly dig up on reefs or beaches. Its short length allows it to fit into the wave pocket, and the moderately pointed round nose allows it to be made without turning sideways and pearling. In slower waves or thick breaking waves on high tides, it glides out of the swell, and in fast, digging waves, it feels like it can glide out instantly.

In terms of movement, it's short, so it moves lightly. This is due to the length of the rail and the curve of the outline, which gives it good rotation and drive. The trick is to adjust the way you turn; putting in a long rail, bending your knees, holding on, and the time it takes to release is proportional to the size of the turn. If you release quickly when turning, you can make a tight, radical turn heading towards the lip at a steep angle, and if you hold on, you can make a big, driving, and impressive-looking big turn.

The tail area is best described as piercing the waves. This is partly due to the latest wing, but the swallow tail, a tradition of the RNF series, reacts more quickly and sensitively to tilting the rails left and right than the squash tails found on most high-performance boards. This means that even when you're surfing and your judgement is slow to match the wave, the board responds quickly, reducing the number of mistakes you make.

Once you get used to it, you'll be able to ride larger waves, and in fact, a video has been released of Mason Ho having fun riding the RNF-REDUX at a reef break in his hometown of Hawaii. The well-balanced shape design of the RNF-REDUX makes it suitable for a wide range of wave types and sizes, making it a board that can be enjoyed by surfers of a wide range of levels.

Once you start riding the RNF-REDUX, you'll want to recommend it to others and be able to say with confidence that the RNF-REDUX is amazing.

If Nishii were asked which board he would choose if he could only have one surfboard, he would choose the RNF-REDUX without hesitation.
