Backside riding requires a firm core, The key is how well you can turn your upper body from the waist up towards the wave. I went to Chiba to take some photos, where the north swell is continuing. This is a beach break with strong currents that require constant paddling. On this day, barrel waves appeared, which are common in such conditions. However, the waves are fast and break fast. It was surrounded by many barrels, I was charging it so much that I was worried the magic board would break. Looking at the photo, the wave quality looks similar to that of Skeleton Bay, where Corey Lopez surfed.
