Here is a report from the WCT venue "LOWERS" where the "HURLEY PRO" and "SWATCH WOMENS PRO" are held on lay days. Kolohe Andino shoots out a beautiful, large spray in the morning sun. The LOST/MAYHEM board team rides the waves together. "Kolohe Andino" and "Coco Ho" Kolohe Andino's surfing seems to be well adjusted. Adam Melling is also an avid surfer in the early morning practice group. This time, he rode the LOST/MAYHEM board and returned from injury. Here is a report on the situation at LOWERS, which is now on its third day of the WCT lay day. The special parking lot has separate parking spaces for men and women. The rankings are arranged in order of current rankings, and you can see the surfers whose cars are parked here. It's interesting to see what kind of cars the players are driving. Audis seem to be popular among the players, with Kelly driving a long 4WD van with Florida license plates that he has customized and blacked out, and Kolohe having recently switched from a Toyota Tundra to a Prius. This morning's "LOWERS" featured the Luvsurf TEAM's filming base. He rides the Japan-exclusive 5'8" CONQUEST EL-DIABLO, which was imported back to the USA from Japan. Luvsurf TEAM's Tatsushi Wakabayashi seems to be in good shape, just like Nishii. His son, Sena Wakabayashi, is 9 years old and Japanese, and can now paddle and ride by himself. He's making some great turns. He was born in the USA and trained at LOWERS, so his bottom turn style is based on CA training. He has reached a level where he feels he could beat a WCT surfer on waves of this size. Luvsurf TEAM's Kei Kobayashi is currently 15 years old and will turn 16 in November. The board he was riding was a 5'5" V2-SB. Kei really likes this model. The person practicing on the LOST/MAYHEM board was Adam Melling. The waves were small today so I was riding the "SUB-DRIVER" model. Yesterday, Mick Fanning was also riding a LOST SUB-DRIVER model instead of a DHD. Other WCT athletes practicing this morning included Mick, John John, Nat Young, and Carlos, who won a wildcard in the video trial and defeated Medina, currently ranked number one in the world, in R1. Nishii is again using the HydroFlex EFC ``CONQUEST EL-DIABLO'' model today. This is my fifth board since the test board, and I'm getting used to riding this 5'7" board. It's so good that it seems like this board alone can handle waves up to a certain size. Since it was a lay day for the WCT, locals were gathering like they usually do on Sundays. Kei's father and coach, Masaki, Kolohe's exclusive videographer, Noah Alani, also appears. Since it was Sunday, the local Mayhem factory was closed, so they brought their families to LOWERS to surf. The waves were smaller so the HURLEY PRO and SWATCH WOMENS PRO were closed today. Even though I said I'd gone down in size, it's still about this size. The water was too small for a WCT tournament and new swells were coming in on Monday, so today was a rest day. Since it was a Saturday, gallery attendees and photographers had flocked to the beach from early in the morning. The photographer who accompanied us, Mr. Masuda, was going to take pictures with an underwater camera, Nishii also surfed and had his photo taken. It was early morning on a lay day, so the WCT players hadn't gathered yet, John John, It contained free papers and other things. The board Nishii is riding is the in-form LOST ``CONQUEST EL-DIABLO'' HydroFlex EF,C. The paddle and takeoff are as fast as those of WCT athletes, allowing you to surf comfortably! Due to the time difference between our local times, this report is from LOWERS, California on Friday, September 12th. Today was a lay day for the WCT event. This meant that WCT surfers were taking turns surfing in the ocean. We would like to introduce the riders who rode LOST/MAYHEM boards. ALL PHOTOS by Hayato Masuda Travis Roggie was practicing the fastest backhand lip in the WCT. He uses this board during matches and it seems to work well. In round 2, he will be matched up against Kolohe Andino, who will also be riding the same LOST/MAYHEM board. Jamie Florence is good at turning around by holding the rail under the lip, If I can do that repeatedly in one wave, I think I can win the heat. In the next round, he will face off against the formidable Kelly Slater. I always practice "Coco Ho" early in the morning. It's a sponsored event, so I'm really excited. His surfing seems to be smooth and good no matter what wave he rides. Noah Beschen is not a WCT player, He is a WCT prospect who trains with Kolohe. It reminds me of Kolohe from a few years ago. Kolohe Andino wants to win in his hometown. It makes me forget that I was caught in a cycle of no waves yesterday. The surfing was better than yesterday. It has such a sharp curve in such a slow wave section. The track of the turn is deeper than before, The way he turns the board is modeled after Mick Fanning, who he has publicly stated he models his style on. It has a nice sharpness and accent. He easily made airs and stealth airs with grabs and reverse rails behind him. This will be a high point, so I hope he succeeds in the heat. During a break in filming, Nishii took advantage of the vacant space left by the rider on the LOST/MAYHEM board. I surfed. I tried to model my turn after that of a WCT player. It's obvious, but the levels are different. You can get a good idea by comparing photos or watching your own riding on video. There were a ton of WCT surfers in the ocean, so it was hard to catch any set waves. Nishii rides a LOST CONQUEST EL-DIABLO HydroFlex EF,C. This is a report from two days before the start of the WCT HURLEY PRO and SWATCH PRO . The person riding the mini shuttle was Adam Melling, all three of which were LOST/MAYHEM boards This is the VS-SB model of Alejo Moniz, who was sitting next to me. It's a slightly yellowed magic board and is apparently for actual use. Travis Roggie seems to be in good form, delivering a series of sharp lip syncs. Kei Kobayashi from TEAM Luvsurf rushes into the ocean after school. It's a great environment to be able to surf alongside WCT athletes. Noah Beschen also came from Hawaii to practice. It's important to be in this environment if you want to join the WCT tour in the future. Chris Ward's daughter, Maria Ward, was also surfing alongside the WCT competitors. She went nude surfing and dramatically increased her Instagram followers. Coco Ho is even sponsored by Audi. Kolohe Andino's father is now his coach. Carissa Moore is doing great, even better than yesterday. There are plenty of waves, so the Harley PRO will start as scheduled tomorrow. Luvsurf TV: LOST "SUB-BUGGY" Kolohe Andino 2014 US Open Rider: Kolohe Andiono Board used: LOST "SUB-BUGGY" FILM: Koji Nishii EDIT: TABRIGADE FILM This is a collection of surfing footage of Kolohe Andino riding the SUB-BUGGY at the 2014 ASP Prime event, the US-OPEN, held in Huntington Beach. Kolohe is adept at navigating the unique wave conditions of HB, which are different from those on the WCT tour, with wind blowing into the surf, waves breaking on the outside, thickening in the deeper water, then reforming again and breaking on the inside. On the outside, where the waves are not steep, he weights the board and makes twisting turns to produce spray. This type of wave is common in Japan, so this backside twisting action is a great example to follow. When riding waves, other surfers hit their boards and do a Huntington hop, but Kolohe also shows off his technique of switching rails to propel the board forward, so be sure to check it out. This board is an old one made in September 2013, and Adam Melling keeps it as a magic board for beach break contests. A WCT-class athlete will test ride nearly 100 boards a year. Take care of the board that is in good condition for the waves and don't ride it normally. Apparently he has an important board that he only rides during matches. This DRIVER is apparently one of them. His incredible surfing style relies on his strong legs and hips to ride even the smallest waves that other surfers would struggle to ride. At the US Open, the waves were small and of poor quality, and the largest set seen in this video was this one.
