Barranca is a surf spot at the mouth of a river where you can ride goofy waves for a very long time.
Today, due to the influence of the low pressure system that brought heavy rain last night, Hermosa Beach in front of the hotel was in close-out conditions with a large swell, so I drove north for about an hour this morning to a surf spot called Barranca. It's at the mouth of a river, and the goofy waves are great for riding for a very long time, and the hot break waves are more fun on a longboard than a shortboard. They said they could ride for over a minute, so Nishii and Mayhem brought Smooth Operators. Mayhem was happy that he was able to ride the wave for 1:30. Only residents are allowed in the afternoon. We headed to the reef break that breaks on the private beach. This is a famous spot where Sieropes used to have a villa. The name of the point is Escondido. Beautiful right and left waves peak together and break to the right and left, just like the waves in Indonesia.

It rained heavily this morning, so we took it easy before setting off. The swell was getting bigger, so we decided to go surfing again at the reef break at Escondido, a private beach only accessible to local residents. Mayhem brought an RNF'96 Lightspeed as a gift to Calice, a 62-year-old local surfing legend who can see the waves there, and he was very happy to receive it. On the third day in Costa Rica, I was surfing in Hermosa in front of the hotel in the morning when my leash snapped. It's been so long since my leash broke that I can't even remember the last time. It was difficult to swim back from the ocean because of the current. That just shows how powerful the waves are. There seem to be many powerful beach breaks in Costa Rica. In the afternoon, Mayhem's friend Mango from PICO Surf Shop took us to a different spot called Tree. I was able to surf in the empty ocean for about two hours. Nishii is staying at Playa Hermosa Beach in Costa Rica. The hotel is called Surf Inn Hermosa. I share two bedrooms with Mayhem and his family. Playa Hermosa Beach is a powerful beach break with hollow waves. There was an abundance of wild animals, and an iguana had been hit by a car on the road. There are wild birds like in a zoo, and apparently many tourists come from all over the world just to see the birds. Mayhem is an expert on Costa Rica and has many friends there, and legendary surfers welcome him, so the Nishii family is having a comfortable time.

It's a six-hour direct flight from LA. The time difference with LA is one hour. We boarded at 11pm and arrived at 6am local time. We rented a car at the airport and drove for about two hours.
