This board is a research and development version of LOST's classic "DRIVER" model aimed at middle-aged riders.

The BIG RIG is a long, high-volume, performance mid-sized shortboard that joins our Pro Performance Series. It's designed with the middle-aged shortboard enthusiast in mind who doesn't want to give up their waves to a fishboard. We know you can still ride a high-performance shortboard, but can you actually weave through a crowded lineup or ride waves under pressure? With this question in mind, we approached the development of the BIG RIG. It's scaled up for older riders who want to rip with a model that's directly derived from the DRIVER 2.0 and 3.0. No dummy down.

The number of custom orders for larger DRIVER models in the Performance series is increasing every year, and more surfers are looking for larger boards, so our motivation for developing this board is to provide them with a more optimal design.

Inspired by Cole Houshmand's incredible surfing style and his massive 6'4"/220lb (193cm/100kg) frame, we started by analyzing the boards we'd been building for him over the past 3-4 years. Cole is a young, healthy athlete and world-class pro surfer. We wondered if a similar board would work best for a smaller, older, moderately skilled surfer in our size range, and could be scaled up or down. The BIG RIG DRIVER retains most of the design performance elements of Cole and other elite team riders' boards, with added paddling capabilities for a middle-aged surfer.

• Features a thick centerline, rounded deck and smoothly sloped, "not too boxy" rails • Continuous rocker, stronger from the tail to under the back foot, with a relaxed entry rocker • Single concave throughout, deepest between the feet and relaxed 2 feet in the front and 1 foot in the back of the board • Pronounced double concave under the fin and back foot for a thoroughly modern, high-performance tail rocker • Curvy, easy-going outline with a subtle squash tail for the average surfer.

One of the most important things we did was make it easier to paddle and catch waves in a crowded lineup, and give it more glide while surfing. We lengthened it, relaxed the entry rocker a little, and added 12 inches forward on the nose outline to increase paddle speed and make it easier for middle-aged surfers to catch waves just as easily as kids. We don't want to see older surfers struggling to get up to speed.

Designed and constructed with the same blanks and glassing as other DRIVER series "Performance" boards, it maintains a lightweight and agile foot response.
