Placebo's "NEW RIPQUEST" FLEXLITE-TURBO is amazing! I rode a board with the same specifications as the retail version at a crowded point break in Shonan! Placebo's latest hot model for 2014, "NEW RIPQUEST"!! I spotted someone in the car next to me who had SURF GRASS and was using it! That's great! For the Placebo shoot, veteran photographer TOKU accompanied me today. He took the photo for me. I tried riding the "NEW RIPQUEST" with tri-fins. The new RIPQUEST model was designed by MAYHEM. The "Babeld Edge" installed in the CONQUEST II and FISHQUEST II models I was able to once again understand why it is called "Half" Babel Edge. The split diamond tail has a deep cut, so it responds very well. When you think about lipping, the board responds directly. Half is enough. MICK FANNING'S MAYHEM SUB-DRIVER 2011 was Mick Farming's worst tour year yet. For a man who won three times in 2007, 2009, and 2010, 2011 was a disappointment. He'd lost both of his previous events, the Hurley Pro at Trestles, to Fred Pataccia in round three. "Pressure? No. I don't have a world title, I'm not expected to win tournaments," he said. But that didn't dampen Mick's desire to win. It just meant the board was sluggish under his feet and not the feel he preferred. Before any event at Trestles, Mick did what any pro surfer would: he consulted with Matt Mayhem Bioros, who lives, surfs, shapes, breathes, sweats and has sex there (which is how Trestles is his everything). Kolohe and his pro surfer father, Dino, ride LOST/MAYHEM boards, which are soft but have high-performance edges. Matt remembers Mick providing very precise dimensions. When Matt asked him what volume he wanted, Mick shrugged and said that from what he'd seen, Kolohe's SUB-DRIVER looked good. MAYHEM told Mick, "We'll build it right away," and Mick left.
